Different Tectonic Evolution of Fast Cooling Ophiolite Mantles Recorded by Olivine-Spinel Geothermometry: Case Studies from Iballe (Albania) and Nea Roda (Greece)

Mg-Fe2+ diffusion patterns in olivine and chromite are useful tools for the study of thermal history ultramafic massifs. In present contribution, we applied exponential modeling to geothermometry geospeedometry chromitite ores from two different ophiolite contexts. The Iballe (Northern Albania) hosts several pods within dunites. Primary re-equilibrated Mg#, estimated by using an function, provided re-equilibration primary temperatures ranging between 677 996 °C chromitites 527 806 Cooling rates higher than dunites, suggesting a genesis lithologies, confirmed also spinel mineral chemistry. Chromitites with MORB affinity formed SSZ setting at proto-forearc early stage, explaining cooling rates, while boninitic affinity, were deeper mantle more mature subduction setting. At Nea Roda Greece) do not show Mg-Fe variations, transformation into ferrian produced “fake” chromite. absence low (550–656 °C) suggest that completely during amphibolite-facies metamorphic event obliterated all features.
